Woven Stars Quilt - the details and the cover quilt!

Hello there! I am so excited to announce that my first quilt pattern, Woven Stars Quilt, is available now!

I designed this quilt pattern while taking Amber of Alderwood Studio’s Pattern Writing Academy course! I learned so much in this course, and I am truly grateful for all of the knowledge and friends I have gained from it!

This pattern was tech edited by Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl. This was my first time working with Yvonne and a tech editor, but she made the process so easy! I want to give Yvonne a big thanks for her time and help with Woven Stars!! (If any of you reading this needs a tech editor for your quilt pattern, you should definitely reach out to Yvonne!!)

So, about the pattern! I have always loved the Sawtooth Star. I knew I wanted to one day incorporate it into one of my patterns when I finally started designing on my own. When sketching out random designs for the PWA course, I kept coming back to this Woven Stars design and figured I would start my designing journey with a design that was deeply rooted in my heart!

This is a beginner-friendly pattern! I feel like it’s hard to find a beginner pattern that isn’t overly simple just for the sake of being easy. It took me a long time to find a pattern I liked because of this notion when I was on the search for creating my first quilt. I wrote this pattern in a way where a quilter with no quilts under their belt would be able to pick this pattern up and confidently create their first quilt!

Woven Stars was designed to have big blocks! For a bit of time in the beginning stages, I doubted the big block idea and thought that it may be a turn off to the pattern. After throwing together a test block using some of my scraps, I knew that big blocks are the way to go! This test block came together SO FAST, and it had an “instant gratification” feeling about it!

When playing around with potential colors for this design, I always had the background color as white. This is kind of a little crutch of mine when I choose quilting fabrics for patterns. I wanted to try and step out of that comfort zone, so I took inspiration from Brittany of Lo and Behold Stitchery when I chose Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids Magnetism as my background! The fabrics I paired with it are also AGF Pure Solids in the colors Miami Sunset, Spiceberry, Potter’s Clay, and Blushing. I really like the way the colors pop against the darker background!

This quilt was quilted by the amazing Joanna of Kustom Kwilts! I am so glad I was able to work with her on this project! She is local to me, so it feels awesome to be able to support a local business! She did a heck of a job with this quilting and I am so happy with the way it turned out! The name of this pantograph is Swirly Gig, and it adds a whole new level of oomph to this quilt!!

The backing fabric is Togetherness at Heart from the Homebody collection by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics. I searched and searched for the perfect backing fabric, and I believe my time was well spent. This big print and the perfect colors pair so nicely with the AGF Pure Solids in the top!

I’ll talk about my Autumn Woven Stars quilt in the next post! Let me know what you think this this beginner-friendly pattern! What fabrics would you choose to make this quilt with? Check out the fabric requirements below to start planning your next quilt!
